SCOPE ?

Mary Jo Foley, from the All About Microsoft Blog has posted something very interesting. It's about a whitepaper Microsoft will be releasing and talking about next month, for a new declarative scripting language that

"is optimized for storing and analyzing massive data sets (like search logs and click streams) that are key to cloud-scale service architectures."

SCOPE stands for: Structure Computations Optimized for Parallel Execution

Cool name huh? So what does this future DSL have to do with Dynamics AX or Dynamics in general?

This is for sure a future thing, but think large scale cloud instances of Dynamics functional area's, and offering that to any size company. And having the ability to truly scale over the virtual servers that make up a companies instance in the sky, and you can retrieve and get to their data quickly, and easily using a technology like SCOPE. This is theroy of course until it happens, but we in the Dynamics space should really be paying attention to the cloud computing that is going on. If we are to continue to be the experts, the VAR's and the ISV's of the future that is.

I would recommend checking out her post on this. "Microsoft’s road to the cloud is paved with parallelism"

Enterprise Portal Development in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 - Courseware Released!

*** PartnerSource Access Required ***

Today I saw where Microsoft has released the Enterprise Portal Development in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 Courseware. (Course Number 80015)

This is wonderful news, because now you can start to prep for the certification that goes along with this for Dynamics AX 2009!

Here are some of the highlights listed:

"At Training Material Completion
After reviewing this training material, individuals will be able to:

-Describe the usage and purpose of the major components that comprise Enterprise Portal.
-Describe the overall architecture of Enterprise Portal.
-Create a Web site, Web pages, and build a functional web application in Enterprise Portal.
-Set up users with an Enterprise Portal Web application.
-Develop new Enterprise Portal roles, and assign them the proper security access.
-Learn how to configure Security for your Portal site.
-Demonstrate how to place lookup forms on Web grids.
-Demonstrate how to filter Web published data depending on the user type.
-Secure Web forms and reports using Web content.
-Understand and install new Web parts."

I have downloaded it, and will be reviewing this shortly. I will make sure to keep everyone posted on this. What would go along nicely with this, would be a MCTS certification for MOSS.

Well check back soon!

MSDW: Microsoft’s Push at WPC to Be “Tier 1” ERP

Over on MSDynamicsWorld.com, a nice new article has been posted. Check this out:

"Last week's Worldwide Partner Conference was targeted at all Microsoft partners and ISVs, but Dynamics received more attention than usual, report two partners.

By focusing heavily on Dynamics, Microsoft signaled its readiness to "nudge its way into the Tier 1 party" of ERP providers that has long been dominated by Oracle and SAP, predicts Chris Zimmerman, vice president of the partner program at Kineticsware Inc., a Microsoft Dynamics AX ISV

John Pence, president of Sunrise Technologies, a Microsoft Dynamics partner, got a similar sense, via Microsoft's push on both the server and business intelligence sides. "They're taking a very long-term approach, and bringing more focus to the Dynamics channel," he observes."

Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 - User Experience Guidelines

Recently I recieved an email from a Mara Trygstad, User Experience Designer - Dynamics User Experience Team - Microsoft. This email informed me that the Dynamics User Experience Team has now published the new Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009 User Experience Guidelines

These new guidelines are better than we have ever had in Dynamics AX world, and I would really recommend you taking the time to download them, and look them over with your technical and design teams. (Though even Application Folks could benefit from reviewing them as well).

The point of these guidelines is to really give partners, ISV's, and customizing customers a base / reference in which one can review and lean on in order to get good guidelines for designing any user interface that might exist with the new Dynamics AX 2009 release.

Let take for example, Role Centers. These are new to Dynamics AX 2009, and therefore, require special attention by everyone when creating. Well right off these do get special attention, as they live in th 'Whats New' section of the guidelines. The Whats new section is recommended for reading first and then drives you through the rest of the guide.

In looking at Role Centers, we see information like the following:
"A Role Center should answer these questions for the user:

  • What is my workload?

  • What do I need to do next?

  • Are there any urgent actions I need to carry out?

  • What is the status of the things I should be most concerned about?
"

So as you can see these have great value, and I fully recommend taking the time to review them. Also, the UX team wants feedback. So if you come across something that you think could help make these better, they want to hear about.

Well check back soon!

Dynamics AX 2009 - Demo Data Released

Recently, on July 7th, Microsoft released the Demo Data set for Dynamics AX 2009. This is a totally new dataset, much more complete and all spanning that the famous Global Trade and Manufacturing Company that everyone knows and loves. (well maybe just knows.)

Need PartnerSource Access to download
You can find the link here: Demo Data for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2009

This is a true full blown demo data set, that covers more area's of Dynamics AX that ever before, and a lot of work and expert talent went into creating this new demo data set.

Here are some of the highlights from the download:
"The Demo Data set for Microsoft Dynamics® AX 2009 is no longer based on the Global Trade and Manufacturing Company. Based on market feedback we have created a new Contoso Entertainment systems group of companies. It comes with 2 fiscal years of transactional data that enable us to demo our stronger Business Intelligence story and Role Center pages, while allowing us to easily expand the demo data story in future releases as we expand Microsoft Dynamics® AX’s functionality footprint."

So this helps complete the launch of Dynamics AX 2009! I would recommend those needing this for helping in their demo's, testing, development, and sales cycles to download, and before familiar with it.

MSDW: Can Dynamics AX help with rising energy cost?

To find out what ICS thnks, read the following:

"The runup in energy and other commodity prices is increasing the size of the savings from seemingly small improvements in supply chain management"

And you can read the full article over at MSDynamicsWorld.com, By clicking here: 'How Supply Chain Automation Using Microsoft Dynamics AX Can Take Sting Out of Rising Energy, Commodity Costs'

It's interesting, this point of view. And what correct about this, is that energy cost will more and more be rolled into the ROI listed for doing things correct, right, streamlined, and smart. That means you need an updated Dynamics AX ERP platform in which to streamline your business on.

Check back soon, and thanks MSDynamicsWorld.com for that great article!
